April 1 2013: Proclamation of TCM Act 2006 in Ontario Canada

Today April 1, 2013 is the date that the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006 is proclaimed in Ontario, Canada! This is one of the most important mile stones for Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today is the birth of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists Profession in Ontario!
Proclamation of the TCM Act 2006 means the formal regulation and recognition of the medicine and the profession. As a formally regulated profession, we have established our standards of requirements for registration, for education, for entry level competencies, for practice and for quality assurance. We are accountable to our regulatory body, the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, and we are responsible for providing safe, quality and ethical health care to the public.
As of April 1 2013, Practitioners who wish to perform the authorized controlled acts (communicating a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and acupuncture), and to use the title “traditional Chinese medicine practitioner” or “Acupuncturist” must be registered with the College.
